WE, THE PEOPLE, need a national right to Initiative & Referendum. Until WE, THE PEOPLE, have the right to repeal a bad law and/or make the tough new laws, congress will continue to write bad checks and squander our tax dollars. Sadly, less than half of our States enjoy the rights to Initiative, Referendum or Recall.
The People's right to Make A Law by Initiative is a form of Direct Democracy which has been alive and well at state and local levels since 1777. The Initiative is recognized in 24 states and the District of Columbia. The Initiative is generally combined with the right to Referendum - the People's right to overturn legislation already passed at the state or local levels.
